  36. Sure, look in your license manual, you can use all of 6 meters, except for the
  37. segment from 50.0-50.1. That's CW only (you can still use it, but only for CW!!)

  41. Not many, this may vary from area to area, but in the east coast, I don't know
  42. of very many individual stations on 6m packet, if any, it's being used as a
  43. high speed backbone, (BBS to BBS links only), so I don't know of any individual
  44. stations on 6m packet. (this is in the northern Delaware area)

  48. Depends on band conditions, antennas, power, etc. Figure about a 50 or so mile
  49. radius again, depending on the power, antennas, etc. Under special sporatic E
  50. or F layer propagation, you can talk across the country on 6, but during normal
  51. conditions, figure about 50 or so miles, some more, some less, depends on the
  52. individual station.

  56. Well, as I said, around here, 6 was only used for backbones. I could be wrong   
  57. (it wouldn't be the first time!!), but most people shy away from 6 due to
  58. TVI/RFI concerns. Especially if you're going to use FM, I'd be careful to have
  59. a really clean and well filtered setup, especially if you're going to run more
  60. than just a few watts. My suggestion would to go up on either 222 or 440 and
  61. see if there's anyone up there first before trying 6, or maybe even go to 10.
  62. The 10 meter monoband/25 watt rigs are cheap now, and the band is begging for
  63. use, so if you put up a node there, especially in the 28.1-28.2 segment, both
  64. novices, and technicians (with code) can use it. You'd probrably find a few
  65. more users up on 10 than 6.

  79. I'm in the process of setting up a Packet BBS.

  81. The system is to run BPQ with two VHF ports (UHF or 6m may be in the future).
  82. The BBS software if FBB5.15C.  JNOS is a possibility....probably after my
  83. copy of Desqview arrives.....probably in a week or two.  I also have a
  84. Telebit T2500SA on the BBS.

  122. If your HT keys when there's a current drain in it's microphone port,
  123. you can check out the current need to activate transmission by connecting
  124. the leads through a variable resistor.  Adjust a 10K potentiometer until
  125. it just keys the unit.  For a reference point, I've found that the Yaesu
  126. FT-416 keys with just under 3.0K in line or a current greater than about
  127. 1.7 mA at 5V (Normally the unit "expects" to see a microphone with 2K
  128. impedance, or a 2.5 mA drain, for TX keying).
